What Is a Rubber Duck Regatta?
The term “regatta” traditionally refers to racing events of rowed or sailed watercraft, although some powerboat race series are also called regattas. Regattas can include racing with sailing yachts, sailing dinghies, and even rowing boats, and often include other festivities, making them popular with spectators as well as participants.
This concept has been adapted to extend to rubber duck regattas — unique and delightful events where thousands of bright rubber ducks race down a river or a man-made course, cheered on by spectators of all ages. Each duck is "adopted" by participants for a chance to win fabulous prizes.
Fun for Everyone
Rubber duck regattas promise laughter, excitement, and a bit of suspense as the colorful river of bright yellow ducks makes its way to the finish line. It's a perfect day out for families, offering not only the duck race but also entertainment, food, and activities for children. The sight of thousands of racing rubber ducks makes for joyous photos and memories.
There are also incredible prizes! At the Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta, one lucky winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize and the chance to win $1,000,000! Ducks can be adopted for as little as $5. Adoption papers are available online and across the community at multiple duck adoption events. You can also watch for adoption papers to appear in the Tribune Star newspaper after Opening Day, May 24th!
The 2024 Wabash Valley Rubber Duck Regatta will take place Thursday, July 4th, 2024 at Fairbanks Park and we can’t wait to see you there!
